Zizou Bergs (ATP No. 35, seeded 31st) faces Carlos Taberner (ATP No. 400) in the US Open first round on hard courts. Bergs enters with extensive main-tour hard-court experience this summer, including wins over Baez and a title at Eastbourne on grass, though recent losses to Shelton and Fritz highlight inconsistency. Taberner, returning from a six-month injury layoff, has competed primarily in challengers with mixed results and limited recent ATP exposure. The large ranking gap, Bergs' seeding advantage, and superior recent form on the surface underpin strong trader consensus favoring the Belgian, with Taberner's upset potential tied mainly to any late fitness or confidence issues. No reported injuries or withdrawals affect the matchup.
