A prolonged crisis since the May 2026 no-confidence ouster of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan—driven by PSD withdrawal and AUR support—has seen two failed nominations (Eugen Tomac and Adrian Veștea), with the 60-day window expiring in August. Party talks have stalled amid refusals to revive grand coalitions or back minority setups, while AUR leads polls and snap elections remain a last resort to preserve pro-European stability. Dan has scheduled fresh consultations with parliamentary groups for September 1, signaling preference for a political cabinet over technocratic alternatives ahead of PNRR deadlines and rating reviews.
