The 2027 French presidential election, set for April 18 with a runoff on May 2, features an unusually crowded field after Emmanuel Macron’s term limit bars him from running. Marine Le Pen cleared a key legal hurdle in July 2026 when an appeals court reduced her ineligibility period, enabling her confirmed candidacy and positioning the Rassemblement National as the first-round frontrunner in polls at 32–38%. Multiple center and center-right figures including Édouard Philippe, Gabriel Attal, and Bruno Retailleau have declared, while the left is consolidating through an October 2026 United Left primary and a Socialist primary featuring recent entrant Raphaël Glucksmann. Ongoing Russian disinformation probes and internal party negotiations continue to shape which candidates secure the 500 sponsorships needed for the ballot.
