Mercedes maintains a commanding constructors’ lead after 12 rounds thanks to its early-season advantage under the 2026 regulations, with Kimi Antonelli and George Russell combining for consistent podiums and multiple victories while rivals adapted more slowly. Ferrari and McLaren have since closed gaps through targeted upgrades—particularly McLaren’s recent high-speed improvements that produced back-to-back wins—yet Mercedes still holds a margin exceeding 80–100 points. Budget-cap limits have slowed Mercedes’ development pace relative to rivals, and reliability shortfalls have already cost points, but the team’s initial regulatory head start and dual-driver scoring keep it the clear trader favorite. Sustained Ferrari or McLaren upgrade momentum, further mechanical issues, or a late-season shift in the development race remain the primary routes for challengers to threaten the outcome.
