Recent hotter-than-expected July PCE data, with headline inflation at 3.7% and core holding at 3.3%, has lifted market-implied odds of a December Fed rate hike toward 77% and supported Treasury yields, weighing on gold prices that recently traded near $4,600 per ounce after touching three-month highs above $4,700. Persistent inflation above the Fed’s 2% target, combined with a cooling labor market, is shaping trader expectations for monetary policy under Chair Kevin Warsh ahead of his Jackson Hole speech. Geopolitical easing in energy markets and central bank demand continue to provide structural support, while USD strength and real yields remain key headwinds for XAUUSD in the near term.
