Gubernatorial elections are currently scheduled to be held in Lagos State, Nigeria, on February 6, 2027. If the election is officially rescheduled, this market will resolve based on the election held to choose the Governor for the term beginning in 2027. This market will resolve according to the listed candidate who wins the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial election. Any interim, acting, or caretaker Governor will not qualify. If the results are not known definitively by October 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other". To be elected Governor, a candidate must satisfy the requirements under Nigerian law, including receiving the highest number of votes cast and the constitutionally required geographic distribution of votes. If no candidate wins the election outright, this market will remain open to account for any further election or runoff, provided this occurs before the resolution deadline. If no candidate has been officially elected by the resolution deadline, this market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the results of this election, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve solely based on official results published by Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Nigerian government sources.**Obafemi Hamzat (Kadri Obafemi Hamzat), the current Lagos State Deputy Governor, holds the strongest position as the All Progressives Congress (APC) nominee for the 2027 governorship election.** He secured the ticket through a consensus process backed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the party’s Governance Advisory Council (GAC), and other APC structures, followed by a May 2026 primary where he received 657,917 of 657,974 votes cast after rival aspirants withdrew. President Bola Tinubu’s formal endorsement in late August 2026 reinforced this support during a high-level meeting with GAC leaders. The APC has governed Lagos continuously since 1999 and maintains strong institutional control, including campaign infrastructure already under development as of August 2026. Hamzat has emphasized policy continuity in infrastructure, housing affordability (advocating rent not exceeding 40% of income), water supply expansion, security, and the state’s long-term development master plan. Minor-party and opposition candidates listed in the market face significant structural barriers in a state where APC dominance historically translates to high vote margins. Trader pricing reflects these party machinery and endorsement dynamics, with resolution tied to the official 2027 election outcome. Late shifts remain possible given the timeline but lack current evidence.
