This market will resolve to "Yes" if China commences a military offensive intended to establish control over any portion of the Republic of China (Taiwan) by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Territory under the administration of the Republic of China, including any inhabited islands, will qualify; however, uninhabited islands will not qualify. The resolution source for this market will be official confirmation by China, Taiwan, the United Nations, or any permanent member of the UN Security Council; however, a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.Trader consensus assigning an 88.5% probability against a Chinese invasion of Taiwan by December 31, 2027, reflects Beijing’s sustained preference for incremental coercion over amphibious assault, including expanded China Coast Guard patrols east of the island, routine PLA air and maritime incursions, and legal claims normalizing jurisdiction in the strait. U.S. intelligence assessments indicate no fixed 2027 invasion timetable, with Xi Jinping prioritizing unification without kinetic conflict through 2049 while building capabilities. Recent Trump-Xi diplomacy and U.S. arms-sale pauses have not altered this pattern of gray-zone pressure, and analysts note the high costs, logistical challenges, and preference for lower-risk options such as blockades or political influence operations make a full-scale landing by the deadline unlikely absent major escalatory triggers.
