This market will resolve to "Yes" if there have been the specified amount or more confirmed domestically acquired cases of cyclosporiasis in humans in the territory of the United States of America since May 1, 2026, according to the CDC surveillance count by August 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The resolution source for this market will be the CDC Surveillance of Cyclosporiasis page’s “U.S. cases reported to CDC” count (see: https://www.cdc.gov/cyclosporiasis/php/surveillance/index.html) at the resolution time. If the counter becomes unavailable, another credible source will be used. Note: Only cases reported by the CDC as confirmed domestically acquired cases of cyclosporiasis will qualify, regardless of reports from U.S. State agencies or other sources. Travel-associated cases acquired outside the United States will not qualify. As of August 24, 2026, the CDC has recorded 17,180 laboratory-confirmed domestically acquired cyclosporiasis cases since the May 1 start of the season—far exceeding the 1,180 cases reported for the same period in 2025—with 922 hospitalizations and two deaths across 48 states plus D.C. The surge stems primarily from a large multistate outbreak tied to processed iceberg lettuce imported from central Mexico, alongside at least six additional clusters under FDA and CDC investigation. Case onset dates cluster around early July, and Michigan accounts for the largest share, though weekly additions there have slowed to about 3%. With the typical season concluding August 31, final counts will incorporate any remaining reports through week’s end, while potential underdiagnosis and ongoing surveillance updates could influence the total.
