Geordin Hill-Lewis holds a commanding lead as the Democratic Alliance’s mayoral candidate for the November 4, 2026 local government elections, reflecting the party’s long-standing majority control of Cape Town and recent statistical modeling that projects the DA remaining the largest party. His re-election pitch centers on record infrastructure investment, job creation exceeding 418,000 positions, expanded municipal policing, independent power procurement, and service delivery gains during the current term. As federal DA leader since April 2026, Hill-Lewis benefits from party unity and positive ratings for Cape Town’s governance relative to other metros. Opposition contenders from the ANC and smaller parties remain fragmented with limited projected support. A decisive shift in voter turnout, stronger-than-expected opposition coordination, or late erosion of DA backing in key wards could still alter council arithmetic and the subsequent mayoral selection.
