Recent polling in the three September 2026 German state elections shows the AfD holding commanding leads in the eastern states of Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, where it exceeds 36-42% support amid voter dissatisfaction with the federal CDU-SPD coalition and immigration policy. In Saxony-Anhalt, surveys place the party well ahead of the CDU with little sign of erosion two weeks before the September 6 vote. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern follows a similar pattern, with the AfD ahead of the SPD. Berlin remains far more competitive, with the AfD polling around 17% and trailing other parties. These patterns position two AfD pluralities as the dominant trader consensus, reflecting regional divides in support and the limited prospects for a third win.
