Recent polling in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern shows the AfD maintaining a consistent 7-point lead over the SPD ahead of the 20 September Landtag election, with the AfD at 35–36% and the SPD at 29% in surveys from INSA and Infratest dimap conducted through mid-August. This positioning reflects voter trends favoring the AfD as the strongest party for the first time in the state, while the incumbent SPD-led coalition with the Left faces challenges in retaining its prior support levels from 2021. Minister President Manuela Schwesig has emphasized personal popularity and state-specific issues in the campaign, including criticism of federal policy, yet the gap has narrowed only modestly since earlier 2026 surveys. With roughly three weeks remaining and no major shifts reported in voter intention, traders view an AfD plurality in the vote count as the dominant outcome reflected in current pricing.
