Cannan’s June announcement as a sitting councillor and former MP, coupled with his platform emphasizing public safety, street cleanup, responsible growth, and infrastructure ahead of development, has positioned him as the primary challenger to Dyas’s record. Dyas’s late-July confirmation of his re-election bid highlights first-term progress on crime reduction, transportation funding, and fiscal stability, yet faces scrutiny over ongoing concerns about disorder and rapid expansion. The contest stays competitive pending the September nomination window, with no single dominant shift yet separating the main contenders in skin-in-the-game pricing.
