Recent polling trends across multiple institutes show the CDU consistently ahead of the SPD by 5–8 points in vote intention for the September 20, 2026, Berlin state election, with the CDU at 18–20% and the SPD at 12–15%. The SPD has declined steadily from its 2023 repeat-election result, while the CDU has held relatively steady despite leadership changes following the withdrawal of incumbent Mayor Kai Wegner over handling of a major power outage. The current CDU-SPD governing coalition trails other parties in most surveys, and no late developments have reversed the SPD’s weaker positioning. Trader consensus reflected in the 91% implied probability for the CDU therefore tracks the sustained polling gap between the two parties.
