The Odyssey leads the 2027 Best Cinematography market at 60.5% implied probability following its July 2026 release, driven by Christopher Nolan’s decision to shoot the entire epic on IMAX 70mm film with cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema—the first feature to do so—along with practical location work and early Academy screenings that have generated strong craft buzz. Traders are pricing in its technical scale, box-office momentum exceeding $1.4 billion, and historical precedent for visually ambitious blockbusters in the category. Dune: Part Three sits at 24.5% as the primary anticipated rival ahead of its December release, while Project Hail Mary at 11.9% reflects its earlier March rollout but more contained visual campaign. Most other titles hover near 50% amid pre-festival uncertainty, with guild awards and critics’ circles months away as the key upcoming catalysts.
