This gridlock has produced repeated fiscal standoffs, including budget failures, but major parties except RN have shown little appetite for another vote that could strengthen the RN ahead of the April–May 2027 presidential election. Recent municipal elections in March 2026 and the approach of Senate elections in September 2026 have served as tests of party strength without triggering dissolution. President Macron retains the constitutional power to call snap legislative elections, yet analysts note structural reluctance: centrists and the left fear RN gains, while RN benefits from continued instability. Legal and procedural timelines require a decree and at least several weeks' notice, with the next regular legislative contest not due until 2029 absent early action. Trader consensus on near-term calls remains low because no immediate catalyst—such as a successful no-confidence motion or acute crisis—has emerged to force Macron's hand before key 2026–2027 milestones. Potential triggers include further government collapses or escalating budget disputes, but the prevailing dynamic favors continuation of the status quo until after the presidential contest.
