Sven Schulze, the incumbent CDU Ministerpräsident who assumed office in January 2026 following Reiner Haseloff’s early resignation, leads the market at 73.5% as traders price in his strong position heading into the September 6 Landtag election. Recent ZDF and Infratest dimap polls place the AfD ahead at 40-42% with Ulrich Siegmund, but the party’s isolation—no viable coalition partners due to cross-party exclusion—limits its path to electing a Ministerpräsident. Schulze’s CDU trails at 22-23%, yet remains favored for a potential minority government or cross-party support arrangement involving SPD, Greens, or the Left, consistent with historical patterns of post-election negotiations in fragmented eastern German parliaments. Hypothetical direct-vote polling gives Schulze a clear edge, reinforcing trader consensus on continuity over AfD disruption.
