China’s August CPI rose to 0.8% year-on-year from July’s 0.5%, driven by firmer non-food prices (1.2%) including transport costs amid higher fuel prices and summer travel demand, while food prices remained in deflation at -1.4%. This rebound, alongside PPI climbing to 3.8%, reflects cost pressures from global energy and commodity prices amid Middle East tensions, partially offset by subdued domestic consumption and property-sector weakness. September forecasts cluster near 1.0%, supporting the 0.9-1.0% bracket as the leading outcome, with traders assigning meaningful weight to 0.7-0.8% given persistent food drags and uneven pass-through from producer prices. Core inflation near 1.0% signals limited underlying momentum.
