Recent July 2026 CPI data at 2.9% and Bank of England projections for a 3.2% Q4 peak—driven by pass-through from elevated global energy prices amid Middle East tensions—anchor trader focus on whether the 2026 annual rate settles in the 2.5–2.9% or 3.5–3.9% range. Consensus forecasts from the Treasury and others cluster near 3.1–3.4%, with the Ofgem price cap and services disinflation providing downside offsets while upside risks stem from potential second-round wage effects and persistent energy costs. The near-even market-implied odds on these bins reflect uncertainty over the net impact of cooling labor market conditions versus ongoing supply-side pressures, with upcoming ONS releases and the next BoE Monetary Policy Report likely to clarify the trajectory before year-end resolution.
