Recent July CPI data printed a soft 0.1% MoM (3.4% YoY), aligning with expectations amid cooling energy prices, yet Cleveland Fed nowcasts for August point to a firmer 0.36% MoM reading as of late August. This supports trader positioning favoring 0.4% outcomes on Polymarket, driven by potential rebounds in shelter costs, used vehicles, and services categories following June’s weakness, alongside lingering tariff pass-through and normalized energy volatility. Broader context includes July PCE at 0.2% MoM (3.7% YoY), with core measures holding above the Fed’s 2% target and markets monitoring incoming data for September FOMC implications. The 0.3% bucket retains secondary support if moderation persists.
