Recent South Korea CPI readings near 2.8% year-over-year in July, combined with the Bank of Korea’s maintenance of its 2.7% 2026 inflation projection alongside a sharply upgraded 3.3% growth forecast, anchor trader sentiment around the 2.7–2.9% annual average range. Elevated petroleum prices, Middle East supply risks, and strengthening domestic demand from the semiconductor cycle have sustained core pressures near 2.5%, prompting back-to-back 25-basis-point rate hikes to 3% as of August 27. These factors support the clustered implied probabilities near 2.4–3.0%, though moderating transport and food components plus potential oil-price stabilization could shift outcomes lower ahead of the September CPI release and further BOK communications.
