China's July CPI print of 0.5% year-over-year, softer than expected amid subdued food prices and weak non-food demand, has anchored trader views for the August annual rate near the 0.5-0.8% range. Persistent softness in domestic consumption, ample pork supplies, and cooling global energy costs continue to cap upside, while core inflation near 0.9% and signals of additional fiscal support provide a modest floor. With the top two buckets closely matched, the market reflects uncertainty over whether recent policy pledges will lift price pressures enough to push the print higher or if structural demand weakness will keep the annual rate contained. Fresh data on retail sales, producer prices, or commodity trends ahead of the September release could shift positioning.
