Recent July PCE data, with a 0.2% month-over-month rise exceeding forecasts and annual inflation holding at 3.7%, has anchored expectations for August readings amid persistent core pressures. Cleveland Fed nowcasts point to headline CPI advancing around 0.36% for the month, supporting the market's heaviest weighting toward 0.3–0.4% outcomes as reflective of sticky services and goods prices following earlier energy-driven spikes. Traders price in this range given mixed signals from commodity declines and resilient consumer spending, while the September CPI release and any FOMC signals on the policy path remain key near-term catalysts that could shift implied probabilities.
