**Already-high preliminary counts through late August position the 1250+ outcome as the clear market leader.** Storm Prediction Center data show 1,391 preliminary U.S. tornado reports year-to-date (through August 25), well above the long-term average pace of roughly 1,162 annually. Activity has been especially elevated in northern and Midwestern states, with Illinois alone reporting a record 243 preliminary tornadoes—including multiple EF3s—while traditional Tornado Alley states like Texas remain below normal due to atypical steering patterns that kept storms farther north. Remaining September–December activity typically adds 100–200 confirmed tornadoes on average, making totals below 1250 highly improbable even with below-average fall conditions. Final official counts, released in 2027, will incorporate survey adjustments but are unlikely to alter the outcome materially given the current surplus.
