The 2026 French Senate election on September 27 will renew 178 seats through indirect voting by an electoral college of local officials, with SER currently holding 64 seats including roughly 30-31 up for renewal. Recent municipal results have shifted local majorities in several contested departments, creating uncertainty over delegate alignments and potential far-right gains that could fragment right-leaning support or open opportunities for socialist-ecologist lists. SER and the nearby Union Centriste group (59 seats) remain closely positioned, with traders pricing modest net changes for SER amid limited polling of the indirect electorate and variable local pacts. The narrow spread between the 59-61 and 62-64 brackets reflects these department-level variables, where small swings in turnout or candidate unity could determine whether SER holds or edges its current total.
