The 2026 French Senate election on September 27 renews 178 seats through indirect voting by an electoral college of local officials, with SER currently holding 64-65 seats overall and roughly 30-31 up for renewal. Trader consensus clusters tightly around 59-64 seats because national trends are secondary to department-specific outcomes, where left alliances between socialists, ecologists, and others can offset or compound losses from recent municipal shifts and RN advances in southern departments. Proportional representation in larger constituencies adds volatility, while majoritarian races reward incumbency and local networks. Developments such as finalized candidate lists, last-minute withdrawals, or stronger RN performance in key areas could shift results enough to separate the leading ranges by clarifying net gains or losses for the group.
