Taiwanese local elections are scheduled to be held on November 28, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next Magistrate of Chiayi County as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder Magistrates appointed before the election will not be considered. If the result of this election isn't known, or no candidate has been elected, by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the results of the elections as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the Taiwanese government, specifically the Central Election Commission (https://db.cec.gov.tw/).Tsai Yi-yu secured the Democratic Progressive Party nomination for Chiayi County Magistrate after a decisive January 2026 primary victory, outperforming his intra-party rival by over 26 points in head-to-head polling against the likely opposition. Chiayi County has long been one of Taiwan’s strongest DPP strongholds, with the party holding the magistracy since 2009 and the incumbent term-limited Weng Chang-liang providing organizational support. Opposition parties have consolidated behind independent Wu Pin-jui through recent KMT-TPP coordination efforts, yet this has not narrowed the gap in available indicators. Trader consensus at 91% for Tsai Yi-yu reflects these structural advantages, while Wu Pin-jui sits at 8.5%. Late-campaign developments such as turnout shifts in key townships or unexpected national political events could still alter the outcome before the November 28 vote.
