Yu Shu-chen leads the Hualien County Magistrate race as the Kuomintang nominee, backed by the influential Fu Kun-chi faction and consistent polling leads near 29-30%. The race features a three-way pan-blue contest with independents Chang Chun and Wei Chia-hsien splitting similar voter bases, the latter two polling at 19% and 18% respectively in late August surveys. DPP-leaning voters appear to be consolidating behind Chang, boosting his recent surge, while no official DPP candidate has emerged. With voting set for November 28 and roughly 30% of respondents undecided, trader consensus reflects Yu's structural advantages from party machinery and county history, tempered by vote fragmentation and potential late shifts in non-KMT support.
