Les Républicains currently hold 131 seats in the French Senate ahead of the September 27, 2026, partial renewal of 178 seats. Trader consensus clusters tightly around 121-128 seats because the indirect electoral college—dominated by municipal councilors—has historically favored established center-right parties, yet recent municipal results and localized competition from Rassemblement National and UDR allies introduce downside risk of 3-5 seat losses in targeted departments. Internal candidate unity remains a key variable, with LR leaders emphasizing cohesion to offset far-right pressure while capitalizing on left-wing fragmentation. These cross-pressures, combined with the narrow margin between projected stability and modest erosion, sustain the near-even odds between the two leading outcome brackets.
