Retief Odendaal of the Democratic Alliance and Andile Lungisa of the ANC lead the market for Nelson Mandela Bay mayor ahead of the November 4, 2026 local government elections, with traders assigning them the highest implied probabilities amid a fragmented field that includes incumbent Babalwa Lobishe and smaller-party contenders. The tight positioning reflects the metro’s history of unstable coalitions, persistent service delivery shortfalls in infrastructure and utilities, and disputes over financial management and tariffs that have kept both major parties competitive. Odendaal’s campaign centers on administrative professionalization and past audit gains, while Lungisa’s support stems from strong branch-level backing within the ANC despite internal shortlisting debates. Final candidate confirmations, ward-level results, and any late shifts in turnout or coalition signals could widen the gap before election day.
