Ülle Madise holds a commanding lead in the market for Estonia’s next president due to her cross-party nomination by 75 Riigikogu members from the Reform Party, SDE, Eesti 200, and Isamaa shortly before the August 24 deadline. This backing exceeds the 68 votes required for election in parliament on September 2 and positions her as the sole officially registered candidate after incumbent Alar Karis declined a second term. Her long tenure as Chancellor of Justice has fostered broad acceptance across governing and opposition factions seeking a unifying independent figure. Other declared names, including Mart Helme, lack the parliamentary signatures needed for the initial rounds. Scenarios that could still alter the outcome include unexpected shifts in the secret ballot, a failure to reach the required majority prompting moves to the electoral college, or unresolved legal objections raised by EKRE.
