Estonia is currently scheduled to indirectly elect a new president on September 2, 2026. This market will resolve to the next individual who officially assumes the office of President of Estonia by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. To count for resolution, the individual must be officially sworn in as President of Estonia. Any interim or caretaker President will not count toward the resolution of this market. If no such President takes office by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Estonia; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.Ülle Madise holds a commanding lead in the market for Estonia's next president because 75 members of the 101-seat Riigikogu from the Reform Party, SDE, Eesti 200, and Isamaa formally nominated her as the sole registered candidate ahead of the August 24 deadline. The indirect election, set for September 2 in parliament with possible follow-up rounds on September 3 or an electoral college vote on September 26, requires 68 votes for victory. Broad cross-party backing, including from both coalition and opposition factions, has consolidated support behind the sitting Chancellor of Justice, whose nomination followed incumbent Alar Karis's decision not to seek a second term. Other figures such as Mart Helme received backing from only one party and failed to meet the 21-signature threshold for registration. A late shift in parliamentary votes or failure to reach the required majority in the Riigikogu could still force the process into the electoral college, though current faction commitments point to resolution in the initial parliamentary ballots.
