Ann Kao, the incumbent Hsinchu City mayor running as an independent, holds the strongest position in the 2026 mayoral race due to KMT decisions to forgo a challenger and align with pan-blue coordination. She was reinstated in December 2025 after corruption charges from her legislative tenure were reduced on appeal, following an 18-month suspension. DPP nominee Chuang Ching-cheng and independent Ho Chih-yung trail in available polling, with Kao consistently above 40% support in head-to-head and multi-candidate surveys amid a highly educated local electorate. Candidate registration opened in late August ahead of the November vote, while related opposition coordination talks in nearby districts have shown strains without altering Hsinchu City dynamics. Trader pricing reflects these structural and polling factors.
