Lula maintains a commanding lead in Maranhão for first place in the October 2026 presidential first round, driven by the state's consistent Northeast voting patterns favoring PT candidates and his strong incumbency performance. Recent Quaest polling shows him at 58% against Flávio Bolsonaro at 20%, with all other contenders—including Ronaldo Caiado, Renan Santos, and Augusto Cury—below 3%, consistent with Lula's 69% first-round share in the 2022 election across nearly all municipalities. Trader consensus reflects this entrenched regional preference and limited opposition cohesion, though a late shift could occur if undecided voters (around 11%) consolidate behind a single alternative or if unforeseen campaign events alter turnout among the state's 5.2 million eligible voters.
